Hi @Khs1961,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds frustrating when your printer isn't recognizing that the paper tray is correctly positioned. Here’s what you can do to troubleshoot your HP OfficeJet 5222 printer:

Double Check the Tray: Sometimes, even if it looks like the tray is properly closed, it might not be fully engaged. Make sure to push the tray in until it clicks.

Inspect for Obstructions: Look inside the tray area for any small pieces of paper or debris that could prevent the tray from closing completely.

Reset the Printer: Unplug the printer from the power source, wait about a minute, and then plug it back in. This can sometimes reset any sensors or software issues that might be causing the problem.

Sensor Check: There might be a sensor that detects whether the tray is open or closed. This sensor could be faulty or blocked. Locate the sensor (usually a small lever or switch near the tray area) and ensure it’s not stuck or dirty. You can gently clean around the sensor with a soft brush or cloth.

Firmware Update: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer. You can do this through the HP website or the HP Smart app. Updating the firmware can resolve issues that are caused by software glitches.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
