HP OfficeJet 5740 e-All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The light on my HP Officejet 5740 printer used to go off shortly after the printing job was done.  But lately, it stays on all the time & I can't figure out or find an answer to why it does that & a way to get it not to keep doing it - staying on all the time.

@jmjones46, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Screen Light Stays On After Print Job!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

The issue you're encountering with your HP Officejet 5740 printer, where the screen light remains on after completing a print job, may be due to settings or firmware changes that have occurred. Here are some steps you can take to resolve this issue:

Check Printer Settings:

  • Access the printer's control panel.
  • Look for settings related to power management or display settings.
  • Ensure that the setting for the display or screen timeout is set appropriately to turn off after a period of inactivity.

Update Firmware:

  • Check if there's a firmware update available for your printer model.
  • Visit the HP Support website and enter your printer model to find and download any available firmware updates.

Restart Printer:

  • Power off the printer by unplugging it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • This may reset any temporary errors causing the display to stay on.

Factory Reset:

  • If the issue persists, you can perform a factory reset on the printer.
  • Refer to the user manual or HP support for detailed instructions on how to perform a factory reset.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
