HP ENVY 6455e All-in-One Printer

Hello.  i have an intermittent problem with my Envy 6455E.   Sometimes a print job will not print.  There does not seem to be any pattern as to when it will or won't.  It's happened with three different programs.  Today, for example, I printed a page, did some more work, printed a page, did some more work, and then tried to print another page,  but the last one didn't print.    (All in the same program)  Sometimes this will happen the first time I try to print something.  

 

The error message says "Error Printing on Hp Envy 6455e".  I think it's coming from windows rather than the printer or HP.

This can also happen if I am trying to copy something.  Sometimes it just doesn't want to copy.

 

I am using it at home. I will sometimes not print anything for  4 or 5 days.  The printer is connected by USB to my windows 10 desktop, no wifi.   

 

I have HP Smart installed, (it doesn't run automatically.)  If I open HP Smart after this happens it says "printer status unknown".  I try running the diagnostic and fix, and it says "Print jobs in queue issue fixed" but then the test print doesn't (I get the same error message).

Is there a different app/driver I should use since I am not on wifi?    The printer was only recently installed, so I believe I have the latest driver, but I haven't worked out how to check that.

It is true that some features and functions are not available using a USB connection.

 

HP Smart presumably works with a USB connection - I've never seen it -- I would guess some of the more clever features in the application are not available with a USB connection or fail to work as expected.

 

Consider...

No router?

 

The printer supports Wi-Fi Direct --connecting your printer and your computer using the printer's wireless radio.

Printer Software - The Full Feature Software

 

If you can do so,

Assuming the version of Windows OS you hinted at supports it --

Yes - Install the Full Feature Software / full driver printer software.

Installing the full driver adds at least two shortcuts to your Desktop:

Printer Assistant

HP Scan

I removed HP Smart and installed the Full Featured driver, and that seems to have done the trick.  It's a bit confusing because when I go to the support page and look for drivers I'm still recommended to install the Smart App.  And the full featured driver describes it self as an app for scanning.  Still the printer is working when required, so all is good. 

 

I don't have wifi on the computer, so anything involving wifi isn't going an option.  I just want to be able to print, scan and copy, from the one computer.  Hopefully, it will continue to work, not just today!

Well, it worked for a few days, and then today I went to print, and nothing happened for maybe an hour, and then it printed.  It's the unreliability of this that bugs me.
