HP ENVY 5540 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an HP Envy 5540 All in One printer. I am getting several errors:

Printer is busy. Printer needs attention; out of paper (it's not). Not connected to server. I have downloaded new drivers, tried the troubleshooting, asked for a phone call to get support (7 hours later and still no phone call).

I tried new paper. I tried troubleshooting and it says printer is working fine. Also getting jobs stuck in queue error too.  I have no idea what to do, except maybe try installing new cartridges? It won't print from my Ipad, I phone or from my laptop.

Hi @LaurenEA ,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like you've already tried some troubleshooting steps, but let's go through a more comprehensive list of potential solutions for your HP Envy 5540 printer issues:

Check Paper and Paper Tray:

  • Ensure that the paper is loaded correctly in the paper tray.
  • Make sure there are no obstructions or paper jams inside the printer.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer, disconnect the power cord, and wait for about 60 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power cord and turn on the printer.

Check Printer Connection:

  • Ensure that the printer is properly connected to your computer or network.
  • If using a USB connection, try using a different USB port on your computer.

Restart Print Spooler:

  • Press Win + R to open the Run dialog, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  • Locate "Print Spooler" in the list, right-click it, and select "Restart."

Clear Print Queue:

  • Open the Print Queue:
    • Press Win + R, type control printers, and press Enter.
  • Cancel all pending print jobs.

Update Printer Drivers:

  • Make sure you have the latest printer drivers installed. You can download them from the HP website.

Check for Windows Updates:

  • Ensure that your Windows operating system is up to date.

Reinstall Printer:

  • Remove the printer from your devices and printers list, then reinstall it.
    • Press Win + R, type control printers, and press Enter.
    • Right-click on your printer and select "Remove device."
    • Reinstall the printer using the latest drivers from the HP website.

Check for Firmware Updates:

  • Visit the HP support website and check if there are any firmware updates for your printer.

Printer Cartridges:

  • If the printer is complaining about low ink or toner, consider replacing the cartridges.

HP Print and Scan Doctor:

  • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor utility from the HP website. This tool can automatically diagnose and resolve printing problems.

Firewall/Antivirus Settings:

  • Ensure that your firewall or antivirus software is not blocking the printer communication.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.-
