My printer keeps trying to treat the photo paper tray as the main tray when I try to print documents. I also get an error message that the paper tray is empty when the main tray is full. I have followed all the trouble shooting  suggestions  I could find and nothing works.  This appears to have happened after a windows 10 update.  I have tried:

1) Turning printer on and off

2) Unplugging printer

3) Running HP Print and Scan Dr.  No issues found

4) confirming that main tray is selected while printing in apps and printer properties in device manager

5) uninstall and reinstall device and drivers (via print and scad Dr. Functionality.

Help would be appreciated.

Hi @JohnS1200,

Thank you for your reply!,

It sounds like you've already tried several troubleshooting steps to address the issue with your HP Photosmart 7520 printer. Since the problem seems to have occurred after a Windows 10 update, it's possible that there could be a compatibility issue or a driver conflict causing the printer to misbehave.

Here are a few additional steps you can try:

Check for Windows Updates: Sometimes, new updates can address compatibility issues. Make sure your Windows 10 is fully up to date.

Reinstall Printer Drivers Manually: Instead of using HP Print and Scan Doctor, try manually reinstalling the printer drivers. Here's how you can do it:

  • Disconnect the printer from your computer.
  • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click on your printer and select "Remove device" to uninstall it completely.
  • Visit the HP website, locate the drivers for your specific printer model, and download the latest drivers.
  • Install the drivers following the on-screen instructions.
  • Reconnect your printer and check if the issue persists.

Reset Printer Settings: Sometimes, resetting the printer to its default settings can resolve issues. Refer to your printer's manual for instructions on how to perform a factory reset. HP Photosmart 7520 e-All-in-One Printer User Manual

Check Paper Tray Settings on Printer Display: Use the printer's display panel to ensure that the default paper tray settings are correctly configured. You should be able to set the main tray as the default tray for regular printing.

I hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hello Gaya1239

I have attempted all of your suggestions.  Unfortunately none of the suggestions seem to work.
Any additional suggestions would be appreciated.
