My warranty has expired on the printer.  Is that why I can't print?

No, warranty status has no bearing on ability to print. If you recently cancelled an Instant Ink subscription and did not replace the toner cartridge with a new retail one, that would stop you from printing. Can you post more details about what actually happens?
