When your HP printer displays a message saying it cannot print except for printer reports, it typically indicates a problem that needs to be resolved before normal printing can resume. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you troubleshoot and fix the issue:
1. Check Your HP Account
Sign In to HP Smart:
- Open the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device.
- Sign in with the credentials used to register your printer.
- Check for any alerts or messages related to your printer.
Visit HP Smart Website:
- Go to HP Smart and sign in to your account.
- Look for any notifications or issues listed for your printer.
2. Restart Your Printer
- Power Cycle the Printer:
- Turn off your printer.Unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for about 60 seconds.Plug it back in and turn it on.
3. Check Printer Status
Verify Printer Status:
- Ensure that there are no error messages or warning lights on the printer.
- Check if there are any paper jams, low ink levels, or other issues indicated on the printer’s display.
Print a Self-Test Report:
- Most printers have an option to print a self-test or diagnostic report. This can help identify if there are any issues with the printer’s internal components.
4. Update Printer Firmware
- Check for Firmware Updates:
- Open the HP Smart app or go to the HP Support Website.
- Search for your printer model and check if there are any available firmware updates.Follow the instructions to download and install the latest firmware.
5. Check Ink and Paper
- Ensure that the ink cartridges are properly installed and not empty.
- Remove and reinsert the cartridges to ensure they are seated correctly.
- Ensure that there is paper loaded in the paper tray and that it is aligned correctly.
6. Perform Printer Maintenance
- Use the HP Smart app or printer control panel to run any diagnostic tools or maintenance tasks (e.g., printhead cleaning or alignment).
- If available, perform a factory reset on the printer. This can be found in the printer’s settings menu.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
