@Vieillard,

  • How is the printer connected? USB or WiFi?

Thank you for reaching out to the HP Support community!

Let's try these steps:

Step 1: Disable the energy saving mode from the printer control panel

  • Go to the set-up menu
  • Go to preferences, select Energy Saving Mode
  • Disable it

Step 2: Update firmware

  • Refer to this link to update the printer firmware.

Also please make sure that the printer is plugged in directly to a wall outlet and not a surge protector/power strip.

Let me know if this information helps.

Thank you Atharva_GP for responding to my query. Greatly approeciated.

I will follow your instructions and exercise the printer a few times, then will come back to you and let you know the outcome.

It looks as though you are suggesting leaving the printer switched 'on' all the time. Is there no way a standby mode can be created for use with Windows 10?

I must say that altough I don't do a lot of printing, mostly scanning, the printer and scanner functions perform well and better than a previous 'other' complicated one did.

Thank you,

Vieillard

@Vieillard,

You can keep the printer turned off and power it on only when required.

But as suggested earlier, check if the firmware update makes any difference to how the printer is working.

We cannot create a customized standby mode to match the windows 10 PC because of the design limitation on the printer.

Please keep me posted and let me know if you need any further assistance.

Cheers!

Atharva _GP:  Apologies for taking a while to respond.. Distractions.

To try and tidy-up from earlier, my 7500a printer is wired to a mains socket. It is connected via USB to an adjacent PC running Windows 10. It also connects to a laptop using the home network.

With the eco mode disabled (ie printer on all the time):

After starting either the PC or laptop the printer was not recognised, either with the original software or with HP Smart. Running the 'print and scan doctor' showed the printer as available; trying to troubleshoot the printer was unsuccessful and resulted in the HP panel 'freezing'. The only remedy was to do a computer restart.

Printer mains power was switched off. With the PC and LT up and running, the printer was switched back on. Data connection was then possible to the printer  from PC and LT. Print and scan functions worked.

It seems that the only way to use this printer is to turn it off until needed. Unfortunately doing this means that the printer goes through its readying cycle every time. I'll need a new foam pad soon!

Is there a more recent version of this printer that will work 'properly' with Windows 10?

My thanks and best wishes for your advice.

@Vieillard

  • Did you check if there is any firmware update available for the printer as stated in the earlier post?
  1. Click here to download and install the latest firmware from your computer.
  2. Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.

Assign a Manual IP address to the printer (Wireless connectivity)

• Obtain the IP address of the printer – You can touch the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel to obtain the IP address.

• Type the IP address at the top of your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.

•  If you get any security notification, click on show details and 'proceed to this website'.

• Go to "Network" tab - General - Select "Network protocols" - Select "Enable IPv4 only" (or similar) - Apply the settings.

• Go to the “Network” tab – Click on “Wireless (802.11) – Then click on “Network address (IPv4)

• Click on the radio button which says “Manual IP” and then click “Suggest a manual IP address” to give a manual IP address to your printer.

• Click on the radio button which says “Manual DNS Server” and under manual preferred type 8.8.8.8 and under manual alternate type 8.8.4.4 (This is Google DNS server address)

To watch a video as how to assign a manual IP address, click here

Let me know how this goes.
