Officejet 8500
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I am getting an error message that there is a print head error for the Black and Yellow printhead. I tried to replace it with the HP officejet Printhead 940. I still get an error. I have tried rebooting. Fiddling with it. Cleaning it. Even bought a second printhead in case it was that and it continues to give the error.

It is likely not cost effective to bring it to a repair shop as I can probably buy a replacement for just a little more. But if I could replace the carrage part that the print heads sit in, that may fix the problem. I like the printer and outside of this issue, I believe everything else is fine.

What is that specfic part # for the carrage and where can I order it from? Is there any place I can go for a quick education on opening the printer and accessing the carrage that holds the print heads. I am going to order a new HP printer, but if I can fix this one inexpensively and salvage it, I could use it elsewhere.

Thanks for the advise, but the printer has served me well for 7 years. I decided it is not worth the repair costs and instead purchased a new Officejet 8720.

I'll be happy if I can get another 7 or 8 years out of the new one.
