I have done all that and putting the printer IP address in a browser shows that it can be detected. What I need to know is how will I know that Full_Webpack-38.9.2002_1-OJ8740_Full_Webpack.exe is working. In other words, once I click on the exe file and it installs, what is supposed to happen in the normal course of the installation? Thank you.

Hi @Javathehut,
Once you run Full_Webpack-38.9.2002_1-OJ8740_Full_Webpack.exe, here’s what should happen in a normal installation process:
1. Extraction & Setup Initialization
- When you double-click the .exe file, it will first extract the installation files and launch the HP Installer.
- You may see a User Account Control (UAC) prompt asking for permission—click Yes to continue.
2. Installation Wizard
- The HP Printer Setup Wizard should appear.
- Accept the license agreement and continue.
- The installer will detect your HP OfficeJet Pro 8740 printer on the network (if it’s connected).
3. Driver & Software Installation
- The wizard will begin installing the full feature drivers, utilities, and HP software.
- This includes HP Smart, HP Scan, and any additional tools for scanning, faxing, and printer management.
4. Connection Setup
- If the printer is connected via USB, it will prompt you to plug in the cable.
- If it’s connected over Wi-Fi or Ethernet, the software should automatically detect it.
- If not, you may need to enter the printer’s IP address manually.
5. Completion & Testing
- After installation, the software may ask you to print a test page to verify the connection.
- You should also see an HP printer icon in your system’s Devices and Printers menu.
If nothing happens after running the .exe file, check Task Manager to see if the installer is running in the background. If the installation gets stuck, try running it as Administrator or re-downloading the file.
Let me know if you run into any issues! 😊
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hi @Javathehut,
Thank you for reaching back, It will be best to uninstall and install the latest version of HP Smart app and add the printer to this, which will help fix most of the issues.
I hope this helps.

I am DONE with HP! The printer keeps having a printhead issue no matter how many times I follow the procedure to 'correct' the issue. I have uninstalled HP Dumb and tried to install Full_ Webpack-38.9.2002_1-0J8740 _Full_ Webpack.exe. Yet, first it detects the printer on the network and then it does not. I am DONE with HP! 😞

VikramTheGreat,
I appreciate your response, yet it was too much to deal with, especially when I needed to print out taxes. So, I hauled it into Staples and got a super deal on a trade-in with an Epson. I used to be a loyal HP printer person, yet with all the trouble I experienced with this one and HP Dumb, I decided to try a different route. Thank you.
