Hi @Sparks23,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Here are some steps to try to resolve the black printhead error on your HP Smart Printer 5105:
Clean the Printhead Contacts:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Open the printer to access the printhead.
- Remove the black printhead.
- Use a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water to gently clean the electrical contacts on the printhead and inside the printer.
- Allow the contacts to dry for a few minutes before reinserting the printhead.
Perform a Hard Reset:
- Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord from the back of the printer and the wall outlet.
- Wait for at least 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet and the printer, and then turn on the printer.
Check for Firmware Updates:
- Make sure your printer's firmware is up to date. You can check for updates via the HP Smart app or the HP website.
Align the Printhead:
- Sometimes, aligning the printhead can resolve errors. You can usually find this option in the printer's maintenance or settings menu.
Use Genuine HP Ink Cartridges:
- Ensure you are using genuine HP ink cartridges. Sometimes, non-genuine or refilled cartridges can cause errors.
Check for Obstructions:
- Ensure there are no obstructions or debris inside the printer that might be interfering with the printhead operation.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
