The printer HP 8620 Printhead error.  Printer cartridges are HP type .  I used the older cartridges also that used to work the same exact error.  It appears to be printer hardware issue.  Any suggestion?  Thanks.

Hi @JAKB2,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The "Missing or Failed Printhead" error on the HP Officejet 8620 can indicate a hardware issue with the printhead or its connection to the printer. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and address the issue.

Restart the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.

Check the Cartridges

  • Ensure all cartridges are properly installed and seated firmly.
  • Check for any leaks, damage, or improper installation.
  • Clean the cartridge contacts with a lint-free cloth and distilled water, then allow them to dry completely before reinserting.

Clean the Printhead Contacts

  • Turn off the printer and open the access door.
  • Remove the printhead and cartridges.
  • Use a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water to clean the electrical contacts on the printhead and inside the printer.
  • Let everything dry before reassembling.

Update Firmware

  • Check if there is a firmware update for your printer and apply it. This can resolve compatibility issues.

Reinstall the Printhead

  • If the printhead was removed, ensure it is reinstalled correctly.
  • Secure it firmly in place before closing the access door.

Perform a Semi-Full Reset

  • Unplug the printer while it is on.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the printer and power it on. This reset may clear internal errors.

Inspect for Hardware Damage

  • Examine the printhead and cartridge area for physical damage or debris.
  • If there are visible issues, the printhead may need to be replaced.

Replace the Printhead

  • If the issue persists and you suspect a faulty printhead, consider replacing it. Ensure you purchase a genuine HP replacement compatible with the Officejet 8620.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
