I need to print a large number of envelopes for a mass mailing, using peel-and-seal envelopes (the type of envelope where you peel off a strip from the inside of the flap to seal it).  My printer mis-feeds and jams.  Is there a special setting I can use for this?  I found a 9-year old article saying that HP recommends that you not print on self-adhesive envelopes due to heat issues, but heat is not the issue here--it's jamming.  Surely, HP has caught up to the no-longer-new innovation of self-seal envelopes?  Or, maybe one of my fellow users has discovered a work around?

I have solved my own problem without having to buy a new printer!  Instead, I found a new brand of self-seal envelopes that works as well on my laser printer as regular envelopes.  Yes, I can only print 20 or so at a time, but they go through without jamming at all.  The brand is Ohuhu, and I found them on Amazon.  They're not as thick as the Office Depot brand I had been using, so they run through the feeder without jamming.  The vinyl peel is also not as thick.  The flaps stick well and they handle easily.  I never thought I'd be in love with an envelope, but my search is over.  Hope this helps someone else who has been as frustrated as I have been for the last couple years.

Take a look at this support doc.

You may want to consider printer mailing labels instead.

Yes, I had already read that article.  Thanks for the suggestion, but labels are not an option for me.  I need each envelope to be individually printed and stamped with a first class stamp to avoid the look of bulk mail.  If they throw it in the trash unopened because they think it's bulk mail, what's the point of doing the mailing in the first place?  I've had printers in the past that would print them, but these newer printers don't.  Admittedly, that could be due to an increased thickness of the envelopes these days.  I truly wish HP would keep this need in mind when they design the next generation of printers.

In that case you should look at a top load printer.

Could you give some examples of models of reasonably priced top loading printers that can handle peel and press envelopes?

Take a look the the Deskjet 3700 series, depending on your print load.

Also the Epson XP-440.

Both are in the 50 dollar range.

When I bought my HP Officejet Pro 8740 in November, I searched unsuccessfully for a printer that would do what I need with envelopes, and didn't mind spending a couple or three hundred dollars for it even though I was settling for less than I wanted.  We will be needing a second printer in the next 1-6 months, and I don't mind spending up to $400 for one that will print large numbers of self-seal envelopes.  Three times a year, I send out a letter to about 1,000 people.  I don't mind printing them 25 at a time, but the printers you suggested will only hold about 5 envelopes, if I'm reading the specs correctly.  Can you suggest any other printers for me?  Thank you so very much.

WorkForce Pro WF-C5290 has 10 envelope rear feed for around 250$.

Have you considered going to a envelope with a window?

Thank you for your suggestions.  If you're saying the Work Force Pro holds 10 envelopes, it still won't work for me with a 1,000-envelope job; I need a minimum load of 25 envelopes, or I'll lose what sanity I have left.  :generic:  Window envelopes don't project the classy, personal touch I'm going for with this job.  I'd still appreciate any other ideas you have, though.

I know of no other printers that are in your price range.

Have you looked a commerical grade printers?
