Big question ... Smiling.
I can offer the following advice on the subject:
NOTE: All suggestions assume you have previously installed the Full Software Solution (printer software).
Photo Paper - mixed document / photo project
If your Place cards are actually just 4x6 or 5x7 inch photo paper, this is easy to do.
The following assumes you have options visible in the Word Ribbon.
Open Word > Page Layout > Size 5X7
Margins > Moderate (or as desired)
- Reminder: Respect your printer hardware minimum margin specifications
Home > Select your Font, text Size > Type your Text
Insert any photos, Images, Clip-Art (for best results, do not use “Cut and Paste”)
Save your File / Work
File > Print > Printer Properties >
Under Paper / Quality >
Paper Source > Main Tray (or “Tray 1”; do not leave Source as “automatic”)
Paper Size > 5X7 in.
Media > HP Advanced Photo Papers (or whatever photo paper is appropriate for your setup)
OK
Click PRINT

If your place cards are part of a "sheet" of place cards, for example, similar to a standard sheet of labels, you do not need the Custom Paper Size; you can create the place cards and print the sheets using Word or perhaps Avery Design and Print (Download for Desktop).
If your little place cards are "separate" bits of paper / card:
There is indication that the printer supports Custom Paper Size. If your place cards are not of one of the listed supported sizes, you might be able to create a Custom Paper Size form for your card paper.
IF Custom Paper Size form setup is supported on your printer, it is likely in the first of the two examples shown below.
Custom Form
- Availability depends on printer model and software and Operating System / Version.
- If the feature is supported the Custom Setup will be available in Devices and Printers OR in Printer Preferences.
- Devices and Printers > Print Server Properties
OR
- Printer Preferences > Print Dialog > Paper / Quality > Custom setting
Example 1
Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers >
Left-Click on your Printer one time to highlight >
Left-Click Print Server Properties (along the top ribbon)
Custom_Form_Index_Card_6x8
Example 2
Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers >
Right-Click on your Printer > If necessary, select printer from drop down menu / list
Printing Preferences > tab Paper/Quality > Custom
Printing_Preferences_Quality-Paper_Custom_1
Depending on Printer Model / Software, changing the paper in the tray may require that the paper settings be adjusted on the printer control panel.
- Open Tray > Change Paper > Check printer control panel: “Modify” > select “Custom” > OK
After you have the Custom Form created, if it were indeed necessary, it is time to create / print the place cards.
The following Dragon document provides a collection of "how to" and examples of the process I have used to create cards / projects of various types. Although "place cards" is not represented, you might be able to extrapolate something that will work for your situation.
