For some reason when I try to print an envelope it starts by printing a half page full of tiny dots across the righthand side then ejects that page and prints the envelope correctly but without the return address. I have tried printing after removing the return address but the first page with dots still prints ahead of the envelope. The printer was printing envelopes with return addresses fine until recently. What is my next step to correct this?

Hi @BluesBoyl,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like you're experiencing a printing issue with your HP OfficeJet Pro 9025 when trying to print envelopes. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the problem.

Check Envelope Settings:

  • Make sure that the envelope size and type are correctly selected in your printer settings. Ensure that the settings match the size and type of the envelopes you are using.

Print Driver Settings:

  • Open the printer properties or preferences on your computer.
  • Verify that the print settings, such as paper size and type, are set correctly for envelopes.

Print Preview:

  • Before sending the print job, use the print preview option to ensure that the document looks correct on the screen.

Printer Firmware Update:

  • Ensure that your printer has the latest firmware installed. You can check for firmware updates on the HP support website and follow their instructions for updating.

Reset Printer:

  • Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for a few minutes. Then, plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes resolve temporary glitches.

Paper Handling:

  • Ensure that the envelope is loaded correctly in the paper tray, and that there are no issues with the paper guides. Adjust the guides to fit the envelope size.

Driver Reinstallation:

  • Uninstall and reinstall the printer drivers on your computer. Make sure to download the latest drivers from the official HP website.

Check for Software Conflicts:

  • Ensure that there are no conflicting software or drivers on your computer that may be causing the issue. Sometimes, third-party software can interfere with the printing process.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank you so much for the detailed information. I have tried all the various steps you mentioned to correct the situation. I am sorry to report that none have corrected the issue.

One of the other things I may not have mentioned is that I have been using this same printer (HP OfficeJet Pro 9020) and the same envelope file for several months (or years) without issue. Suddenly now the printer prints one envelope with a dotted page half the size of the envelope, ejects that envelope, and then prints the envelope but without the return address, which is in the file and on the Print Preview screen.  I am using MS Windows 11 (upgraded from 10) running on an HP Spectre x360 convertible.

I am an IT software professional I am at a total loss.

So after burning through a bunch of test paper I finally have a solution. If I use the "Print" option from the File Menu and select the "Print" menu (in Word) the default printer is set as "Print on both sides Flip pages on long edge" and when I change the printer settings to "Print One Sided" then envelope prints correctly, one page with the return address and looks perfect.

Now, I wonder what happened to cause me to make this change on every envelope I print.
