I found a very helpful answer to this problem from 3 months ago that did not resolve the issue for me today!

Here is the suggested steps:

If you're receiving a "Filter Failed" notice on your Chromebook, it typically indicates an issue with the printing subsystem. Here are a few steps you can try to resolve the problem:

Restart your Chromebook: Sometimes, a simple restart can fix temporary glitches. Go to the "Shut down" option in the menu and restart your Chromebook. [DID THIS - did not help]

Clear print spooler: Clearing the print spooler can help resolve any pending print jobs or corrupted print data. Follow these steps:
a. Open a new tab in your Chrome browser and enter the following address: chrome://settings/cleanup. [DID THIS]
b. Click on "Find" next to "Print spooler" and select "Run." [Find and Search did not find "print spooler"]

Check printer connection: Ensure that your printer is properly connected to your Chromebook. Check the USB or network connection, and if necessary, try reconnecting the printer. [I have been printing remotely just fine for months and all of a sudden it failed just a few minutes after printing another document fine]
