Kumar. I have an HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 , The issue is when I print from a **bleep** page, whether a document or page itself, it prints out in magenta at very slow speed. The printer is set for black and white, but everything comes out magenta. If I have the option to download the document to my MAC and then pull up and print, no problem. Right color, right speed.

This seems like an issue with the page that you are trying to print and not an issue with the printer. (The page you have mentioned is masked for unknown reasons)
Try using a different web browser or contact the page developer as the printer is printing all other documents fine.
To resolve print quality issues, refer to - Black or Color Ink Not Printing, Other Print Quality Issues
Update the printer firmware
Click here to download and install the latest printer firmware from your Mac.
Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.
Also, check for any software updates on Mac
Click the Apple icon > About This Mac > Software Update and install any available update.
Keep me posted for any other assistance.

Kumar
I tried using Outlook and printing a pdf. Document and had the same results. Slow and in magenta. When I download to my MAC and then print from finder, it works just fine. Not sure honestly why this is happening since it only started about (1) month ago and previously encountered no problems.
Thanks
Mike

Are you using Safari to print?
Kindly use Google Chrome or Firefox to print and check if the issue persists.
Have you checked if the printer and the Mac are up to date?
As you are able to print fine once downloaded, it means the printer is working fine and this is an application or software issue.
Keep me posted.

Kumar. I just tried printing using Safari of a boarding pass and it worked fine. I have been using Chrome or Outlook and both those have been printing in magenta and slow so not sure what I can do to correct this. I have updated both printer and Mac previously, so suspect that is not the issue. Thanks

It is not an issue with the printer if you are able to print fine using the Safari browser.
Try the steps mentioned in this document to resolve slow printing - Slow printing
Check for software updates on Chrome and outlook.
Also, try printing using different apps like Word, Firefox, PDFs, emails and check for the issue.
Keep me posted.
