Hi,
When I print a PDF file in colour using standard A4 plain paper the print position and quality is fine.
However if I print the same file using A4 size 220 gsm card, either matte or glossy , the print area shifts around 1" to the left cutting off the print. Please see examples below.
Left printed on standard plain paper 85gsm right is same file printed on 220gsm card
I have checked the print settings for the paper and card used and also the page alignment settings but no combination of settings produces the same printout for both types of paper. What should I do?

Hi @Siroccogirl,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you are experiencing print alignment issues when using different paper types (plain paper vs. cardstock) on your HP Color Laser 150nw printer, there are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and address the problem:
Paper Settings:
- Make sure that the paper settings in the print driver match the paper type you are using. Adjust the settings to reflect the correct paper weight (220 gsm cardstock) and type (matte or glossy).
Print Margins:
- Check the margins set in your PDF file. Sometimes, if the PDF has specific margins, it can affect the print alignment. Adjust the margins in your PDF file to ensure they are within the printable area of the cardstock.
Printer Properties:
- Access the printer properties in your computer's control panel or print dialog box. Verify that the paper type and size settings match the specifications of the cardstock you are using.
Firmware Update:
- Ensure that your printer's firmware is up to date. HP often releases firmware updates to address various issues, including print alignment problems. Visit the HP website to check for and install any available firmware updates for your printer model.

Paper Handling:
- Check if the printer's paper handling guides are properly adjusted to fit the cardstock. Ensure that the cardstock is loaded into the paper tray correctly, and there are no obstructions.
Print Preview:
- Before sending the print job, use the print preview option to see how the document will appear on the selected paper. This can help you identify any potential alignment issues before printing.
If the issue persists, I request you to follow the steps for HP Color Laser 150 Printers - Fixing Poor Print Quality.
