OfficeJet 4650
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have formatted MS Word for 3x5 index cards and in print preview it appears that the text I want (only 1 word per card/page) is centered.

When I print on a 3x5 Index Card (and the printer is correctly programmed for that size), the text prints on the far left side of the index card, even cutting off the first portion of the first letter.

I have tried moving margins and spacing, and ensured that both WS Word and Printer are set to 3x5 Index card...

Product:  HP Deskjet 3650 Color Inkjet Printer

If this is your printer, the printer was introduced a long time ago (documentation shows 2003).  ?

The model was marked for obsolescence in 2011.

The Specifications support printing on Index card, size 3x5 inches.

The cause of the issue might be that there are no HP drivers for this Operating System version,

That means, the printer software does not support Windows 10.

Worse, I cannot find drivers for this printer in Windows "Add a Printer" procedure, not even after "updating the list".

Drivers are not found in the Microsoft®Update Catalog

What does this mean?

Without drivers (software for the printer), you can expect only basic print function.  Features that would benefit by having the printer software control / support are either not available or may behave in a manner other than expected / hoped.

I am able to print regular doucuments, so  I know the drive is compatable.

Things to confirm / try / consider:

Use a Text Box to corral the Text / Image

This might work if your content location won't stick when the document is printed.  It also works to "corral" images to fit within the size of the text box.

  • Add an  text box in your Word document, centered and the edges of the box Not exceeding your margins.  For example, set margins (and create text box) no closer to the edge than .17 inches).
  • Set your Font, Font Size, Color, and any Text Effects
  • Set the "center" option
  • Enter text and or Insert Image(s)
  • If you like, Right-Click on the Text box at the edge > Format Shape > adjust the Shape and Text options as desired > click the X (next to Format Shape menu)

Save the document

Select File > Print > Set your options

Reminder:  Be sure to check / verify / adjust the options in all tabs of the Printer Properties

Print one copy of the file to test

Export file to PDF

This might work if the content is "sliding around" due to some weirdness in the Word-to-Printer translation.

Create the document as you like.

Use Save-As and export the document to a PDF format.

Export to PDF > Print PDF file as Image

Open the offending PDF file in Adobe Reader DC > File > Print > Advanced >>

  1. Set the printer select the colors (Optional)
  2. Print the PDF file as an image
