Hi @Lisa3571,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
If your HP printer is not printing even though it makes noise and shows as idle on your Windows 11 laptop, here’s a step-by-step guide to get it working again:
1. Restart the Print Spooler
This clears stuck jobs and resets the print service:
- Press Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
- Scroll to Print Spooler.
- Right-click it → Stop.
- Go to C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS and delete all files in that folder.
- Go back to services.msc and start the Print Spooler.
2. Remove and Reinstall the Printer
- Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select your printer → Remove device.
- Restart your PC.
- Reinstall the printer using the HP Smart app or Add device in Settings.
3. Use HP Smart’s “Diagnose & Fix” Tool
- Open the HP Smart app.
- Click the wrench icon or go to Settings > Diagnose & Fix.
- Run the tool and follow the prompts.
4. Try Printing from Another App
- Open Notepad or WordPad.
- Type a few words and try printing.
- If it works, the issue may be with the original app (e.g., browser, PDF viewer).
5. Update Printer Drivers
- Visit HP’s driver page.
- Search for your printer model.
- Download and install the Full Feature Software and Drivers.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
