Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

My system is windows 7 not sure if it is 32 or 64 bit also the board above states ink jet  whereas I have a deskjet printer but  it does not give that option!!!

When I print off a document, the bottom 30mm is missing, I can see the full document before printing on the computer screen and it stated 1 of 1 (no second page)  I do not get a second page with the last two lines on it. the printer is now showing the number 2 and an E flashing alternatively. HELP

@Pollyanna1,

Thank you for reaching out to the HP Support community!

  • What is the model of your printer? (Please check what is specified on the printer)
    • Try pressing the Black Copy and the Color copy button until it starts printing. This report should have the product name.
  • Does the copy work fine from the printer?
  • How is the printer connected to the PC? Wired or Wireless?
  • Do you face the same issue while printing from different applications?

Please provide the above information to assist you with accurate resolution.

Thanks for getting back to me on this, the model is HP Deskjet 3720

  • Does the copy work fine from the printer? - No, the text on the original document  is approx 8mm from the top of the document whereas the copy is 15mm from the top and the last two lines have been ommited from the end.
  • How is the printer connected to the PC? Wired or Wireless? - wireless
  • Do you face the same issue while printing from different applications? - I have printed from an e-mail attachment and it seems to be ok

@Pollyanna1,

Let's try these steps:

Step 1: Power Reset

  • Make sure this printer is plugged into a direct wall, not a surge protector.
  • Turn the printer on.
  • Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
  • Remove all of your ink cartridges from the printer and close the door.
  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
  • Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  • Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on. The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.
  • Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.
  • Reinsert the ink cartridges, and then close the ink cartridge access door.
  • Check if you can copy with proper alignment
  • If the issue persists, proceed to the next step.

Step 2: Perform printer alignment

  • Load letter or A4 unused plain white paper into the input tray.
  • Open the printer software.
    • From the computer desktop, click Start, select All Programs, click HP, click the folder for the printer, and then select the icon with the printer name.
  • In the printer software, click Print & Scan and then click Maintain Your Printer to access the printer toolbox. The printer toolbox appears. d.
  • Click Align Cartridges on the Device Services tab. The printer prints an alignment page.
  • Follow the onscreen instructions to align the cartridges. Recycle or discard the cartridge alignment sheet later.
  • Check if you can copy with proper alignment
  • If the issue persists, proceed to the next step.

Step 3: Update printer firmware

  • Refer to this link to update the printer firmware.

Let me know if this works.

Hello,
I have done step1 - this improved the allignment of the document almost 100% but not quite it was still a couple of mm out on the left and at the bottom so I did step 2 - this was a disaster, the document is not only off the allignment but it is now blurred as well, I can hardly read it !!!!
I am frightened to try step 3 incase this makes things even worse!
Is there a telephone number I can call and speak direct to someone?
