HP DeskJet 2722 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Printer spits out blank pages or sometimes a small portion of the page with word document.
Wifi connection on home network.
Able to print from the scan tray in both color and black ink. It scans fine and prints fine from the scanning tray. Has plenty of Inc. So its not the printer heads or cartridges. Definitely a software thing.

When I send a word document the printer que receives the document, shoots out the blank page and assumes a job well done.
If I go into the device manager and tell it to print a test page it will print the top inch of the page and leave the rest empty.
If I choose a PDF file to print, it will shoot out a blank page. If I choose the PDF file from the HP Smart software it will print the PDF file, but in very very VERY light gray....

Restarted everything a few times
I have updated the drivers
Uninstalled the printer and reinstalled
Uninstalled HP Smart App and reinstalled

This printer has seen very minimal use. It has printed less than 30 pages in the year I have had it. Has worked great until now.

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand that you are getting print quality issues, I am glad to assist you.

This seems to be a driver issue,

Did you uninstall the printer driver from the root level before installing the new driver?

If not, follow these steps to fix the issue:-

Perform root level uninstallation to remove all the printer related software's.

  • In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
  • Select your HP printer.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
  • In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
  • Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
  • Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
  • Click on Drivers tab.
  • Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
  • Select OK.
  • Remove all instances of the same.
  • Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
  • Close Devices and Printers.
  • Restart the PC again.

Hey Thanks for replying.

It still prints blank pages from Microsoft Work or from Notepad.
Going through these steps did help it print PDF files perfectly from the HP App. The HP App is only able to print PDF and does not support word documents or text documents.

If I open a PDF file in Adobe and print from there it is a blank page.

So it seems it can print a PDF from the HP App fine, but it can't print a text document or a PDF from any other program.

Seems like a communication issue with other programs.

Just to be clear:
Text document from Microsoft Word = Blank page
Text document from Notepad = Blank Page
PDF File printed from Adobe = Blank Page

PDF File printed from HP App = Works!
Print from the scanning tray = Works!

Thank you so much for your help, truly appreciative!
