Pro 8600 Plus, printer was working fine, replaced an ink cartridge, printer does not work any more. Followed on screen instructions, rebooted, still does not work. Gives me a General Printer Error, no code. (Edited)

@redjam,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Reset the Printer

  • With the printer on, unplug the power cord from the back.
  • Unplug it from the wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord directly into the wall (avoid power strips).
  • Reconnect the printer and turn it on.

Check the Ink Cartridges & Printhead

  • Remove all ink cartridges.
  • Check if any cartridge has leaked or is improperly seated.
  • With the cartridges removed, unplug the printer for 60 seconds and plug it back in.
  • Reinsert the cartridges one by one.

Inspect the Printhead

  • Open the printer to access the printhead.
  • If possible, remove the printhead (it should lift out after releasing the latch).
  • Gently clean the electrical contacts with a lint-free cloth and distilled water.
  • Let it dry completely and reinstall.

Check for Paper Jams or Obstructions

  • Open all access doors and check for stuck paper, debris, or foreign objects.

Update or Reinstall Firmware (if possible)

  • If the printer lets you access the menu, check for firmware updates via the HP Smart App or HP’s website.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
