HP OfficeJet 7610 Wide Format e-All-in-One Printer

I ran out of Ink. - Black.

When I replace the Black Ink, there were printer failure error message;

" There is a problem with the pinter or ink system. Turn printer off, then on. If problem persists, contact HP."

I tried turn off and on, but still same issue.

I tried to put the old ink back, there were no error message like that.

I re-installed new ink. Same failure error message.

What I can try?

I got another message came that

" One or more of the catriges installed are genuine HP cartridges that have been used previously."

I am not sure this error was pop up when I put the first time or not.

Bough ink from Walmart.

Hi @KaiWL,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Check Ink Cartridge:

  • Ensure the new black ink cartridge is compatible with your printer model.
  • Check that the protective tape has been removed from the ink cartridge's contacts.

Reinstall the Ink Cartridge:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Wait for a minute, then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Reinstall the ink cartridges, ensuring they are firmly seated in the printer.

Clean the Ink Cartridge Contacts:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Carefully remove the black ink cartridge.
  • Using a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water, gently clean the copper-colored contacts of the cartridge and the corresponding contacts in the printer.
  • Allow the contacts to dry completely, then reinstall the cartridge.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet and disconnect any other cables.
  • Wait for two to three minutes.
  • Reconnect the cables and power the printer back on.

Use an HP Authorized Cartridge:

  • Verify that you are using an original HP ink cartridge. Third-party cartridges can sometimes cause compatibility issues.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Check online for any firmware updates for your printer model that might address ink system errors.

I hope this helps.

Unfortunately, it still not working.

I wanted to know if this is printer problem? or Ink Problem.

One thing I found out on ink (Yes, it is HP Authorized ) was that the expire date was a year ago.

Not sure this is the cause or not,

I returned the ink, but I am hesitating to spend $50 to investigate as I am not sure if this was potential printer issue.

Anything i should try now?

Hi @KaiWL,

Thank you for the response.

Even though it's a genuine HP cartridge, if the expiration date is over, the printer may reject it or fail to initialize it properly, especially if:

The ink has dried up, or the internal sponge has hardened.

The chip on the cartridge has been locked or marked as expired.

That explains why your old cartridge didn't trigger the error, but the new/expired one did, even though it was from Walmart.

Before considering a $50 service fee, try this cost-effective approach:

Purchase a new genuine HP cartridge, but this time, double-check:

The expiration date (on the box).

That the package is factory-sealed.

It says “New” (not recycled or remanufactured) even at a retailer like Walmart.

If the printer still throws the same error with a new, in-date cartridge:

That would indicate a possible issue with the printer’s printhead or cartridge detection system.

I hope this helps.
