Officejet Pro 8710
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I am having issues with my Officejet Pro 8710.  It is set up on my wired network, along with various computers that are running Windows 7 home, Windows 7 Pro, and Windows 10 Home.  I can print from the 7 Pro computer reliably, however, the other computers cannot always get the printer to print.   I have set up batch files on the computers that don't print reliably to clear the printer cache on start up and log on cycles.  I have tried uninstalling and re-installing the printer drivers, but still cannot print reliably to the printer.  We have to turn the printer off and on, or turn the computer off and on to get it to go.  Our old HP laser printer would print within 10 seconds of sending the print job, whereas this printer doesn't always do that.  It seems that the print job gets lost somewhere in transmission.

Any help resolving this issue would be great.  Also, we have problems scanning to the same computers as well.  I don't know if this is a network issue or an issue with the individual computers on the network.  Could it be something in the Windows registry?  Maybe some old HP printer that was not removed from the registry correctly?  Should I take it off the network and hook it up directly to the main computer, then share it with the rest of the computers on the network?  If I do that, will I still be able to print from the HP print app on the phone?

Thanks for the help

I understand that you are facing difficulties printing from the Win7 operating system.

Appreciate all your efforts in the troubleshooting steps.

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor

If you have Windows 10 or 8, download a special version of HP Printer and Scan Doctor that was made specifically for helping with printer offline problems. Skip to the next step if your computer does not have Windows 8 or 10.

  1. Download the HP Print and Scan Doctor.

  2. Run HPPSdr.exe from the download location on your computer.

  3. Once HP Print and Scan Doctor is open, click Start, and then choose your printer.

    • If your printer is not listed, turn it on and click Retry.
    • If there is a connection problem, follow the instructions in the tool.
  4. Click Fix Printing.

If the issue persists, l et’s try to fix this issue by doing a clean install.

Follow the steps mentioned below:

First, unplug the USB cable from the printer is present.
Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Officejet printer entries and uninstall them.
Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.

Restart your computer.

Click the bottom-left Start button on the desktop, type device manager in the search box and tap Device Manager on the menu.
Once in device manager, click on the view tab in the top & choose “Show hidden devices”.

Then from the device manager list, check the entries under “Printer” – If there are any entries, please right click and choose “uninstall” – In the confirm device un-install pop-up, make sure you select the box which says “Delete the driver software for this device".
Also, check the entries under "printer queue" and "imaging devices" and repeat the same exercise.
Delete any printer entry or any entry which says “Unknown device”.

Once done, close device-manger.
Then press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" and press enter.
Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
Again, go to Run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
Once done you can try cleaning out your temporary files and cached files.
You can try using automated applications like some cleaner software's that you can download from the internet.
Now restart your computer again.
Open the Run window again, type “services.msc” and press ok to get services window.
Scroll down to “Remote Procedure Call (RPC)” – right-click and go to properties.
Make sure the service is started and startup type is “Automatic”.

Now scroll up and go to “Function Discovery Provider Host” – right-click and select properties – Change the startup type to “manual” and start the service.
Repeat the same exercise on “Function Discovery Resource Publication” as well.

Thanks for the help.  I ran the print and scan doctor and it turns out that for some reason the port was wrong for that printer.   So far it is working just fine.
