Dear helper,
My printer (HP Envy 4520) did not work wireless for a few weeks, until it did not work at all anymore. I repeated the reinstallation and did everything that is recommended as a solution many times again, but problems remain.
I can print wirelessly again, and scanning from the printer is also possible. With 'HP printer help' the tabs' Connected ',' Shop ', Help' and 'Tools' work perfectly, but the tab' Print & scan 'does not work at all, so I can’t scan from the PC and always have to walk to the printer.
When I click on ‘Show what is printed' I first have to make a choice between 2 identical printers, but none of the 2 states what is printed, although printing is actually done. But this way I can’t delete an incorrect print job.
Once the message 'scanning from PC not turned on' appeared, but I do not find where I should do that, because the screen on which I could do that until recently is no longer available. Since the reinstallation, some screens look completely different. The 'Print & Scandoctor' can’t help, because printing is successful and I can’t find the scan button anywhere.
When I click 'HP printer help', 'https://www.hpconnected.com/' is also opened on the www, which I do not want. How can I avoid that?
I work with Windows 8.1. Until a few weeks everything worked perfectly. I did not change anything about the printer or PC settings.
This is a Google translation. Can I get an answer in Dutch somewhere? Try not to make the answer too complicated, I am an ICT layman - in fact a ‘laywoman’ - and can’t ask anyone for help at my home.)
Thanks in advance for the help.

Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums. After reading your post I see that you need assistance regarding issues scanning even after a reinstallation of the printer drivers. It will be a delight to assist you here.
Superb analysis and brilliant diagnosis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you on that score. 🙂
To assist you with accurate information I would require more information regarding this:
- Did you try other methods to scan from the computer?
For now, try these steps:
- Please perform a hard reset on the printer from this link: https://hp.care/2rwMzLE by following instructions from the section “Step 1: Reset the printer”
Then uninstall and reinstall the printer drivers at the root level by following these step by step instructions:
- Uninstall the printer from "programs and features" which can be accessed by doing a right-click on the Windows button (Please have the printer Off and disconnected during uninstallation.)
- Check in device manager, if the printer is listed there, please delete it. (Right click on the Windows button to access device manager)
- Go to devices and printers, in control panel and select any printer listed there and you will get some options on the top.
- Click on print server properties.
- You will get a popup, click on the drivers tab and delete all the HP printer drivers listed there if any.
- Delete all the instances of your printer listed in devices and printers.
- Restart the PC.
- Once the PC is on the desktop, press Win + R, it would bring a Run dialog box,
- Type %temp% in the run box and click Ok or hit the Enter button.
- It would bring up the temporary files folder. Delete the files in the folder (You might not be able to delete all the files).
- If possible, delete the printer from the registries using Regedit or using any other 3rd party application.
- Ignore the Regedit option if it cannot be done.
- Restart the PC again.
Then download the latest full feature driver from https://hp.care/2rwMDem and install it on the computer after selecting the correct operating system.
Connect the printer to your computer only when the setup prompts for the printer.
This should fix the issue.
- If the issue continues, then try the HP scan and capture app by following instructions from this link: https://hp.care/2fAFYxE (HP Printers - Using the HP Scan and Capture App (Windows 8 and 10) to download, install and use this app with relevant FAQs.
- You could also scan using this app: Windows Scan app (Windows 10, 😎: Search the Microsoft Store for 'windows scan' to find and install this scanning app from Microsoft.
Now check if the issue gets resolved. This should do the trick for you.
Perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. Good luck to you. I will keep a watch for your response.
Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!
To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.
Take care and have a blessed week ahead. 🙂

Dear David,
I started with the Google translation of your recommendations into Dutch . Already after "Step 1: Reset the printer", the tab 'print & scan' works again and scanning can be done wirelessly from the laptop. I can also see what is printed. And after restarting PC and printer, everything remains OK.
So I did not have to perform the rest of the procedure (uninstalling), which seems rather complicated to me, but I keep your help-information in case I might need it later.
Next time I will not mess for three days (about 20 hours) before I ask for help.
You gave me the great day you wished me, thank you a thousand times.
Sincerely
Suus from Belgium
