Hi @Brownman81,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I know how stressful it can be when a cartridge gets stuck in your HP printer. Let’s walk through the safest way to remove it without causing damage.

Steps to Safely Remove a Jammed or Incorrectly Inserted Cartridge

Step 1: Turn Off the Printer

  • Power off the printer and unplug it from the wall.
  • This prevents any electrical movement while you're working inside.

Step 2: Open the Cartridge Access Door

  • Gently open the front/top cover where the cartridges are located.
  • Wait for the carriage to stop moving (if it was moving before the power-off).

Step 3: Inspect the Cartridge Position

  • Look closely at how the cartridge is stuck:
    • Is it tiltedjammed sideways, or partially inserted?
    • Avoid pulling forcefully this could damage the carriage or cartridge slot.

Step 4: Use Gentle Pressure

  • Hold the cartridge firmly but gently and try to wiggle it side to side.
  • If it’s stuck due to misalignment, this motion can help free it.

Step 5: Use a Plastic Tool (Optional)

  • If fingers can’t reach, use a plastic card or tool (like a credit card) to gently nudge the cartridge from underneath or the side.
  • Avoid using metal tools to prevent damage.

Step 6: Check for Broken Tabs or Debris

  • Once removed, inspect the cartridge and slot for:
    • Broken plastic tabs
    • Ink residue
    • Paper debris

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
