I purchased a 8620 and had this issue with Quickbooks.  I called HP and they had me download a driver for a 9800 series printer.  At the time I was using VISTA as an operating system...yea I know....so I upgraded to Windows 10.  The driver for the 9800 series worked well with the VISTA system. You could change the Layout option to Back to Front....this is what you need anyway for this to work.  And it worked with the 8620 Printer.

I have now upgraded and have Windows 10 64 bit Operating System and still have the 8620 printer.  I'm in search a driver that will work with the 8620 printer, for Windows 10 64 bit Oprating System, and HAS TO HAVE THE ABILITY TO CHANGE the print layout option to "Back to Front".

Which one do I use???

The Deskjet 6980 driver is compatible with the Officejet Pro 8600 series (including the 8620) and provides page order as well as other features missing from the Officejet Pro 8620 driver including:

  • Page Order
  • Resizing options, including page scaling by % or shrink to fit,
  • Copy Count (with optional collating)
  • Mirror Imaging (for printing T-Shirt transfers or decals)
  • Watermarks
  • Advanced Color (Brightness, Saturation and Color tone, individual sliders for CMYK)
  • Overspray
  • Dry Time

The Deskjet 6980 driver can be installed as follows (instructions are for Windows 7, other versions would be similar):  Devices and Printers folder, right click on the Officejet 8620, select Printer Properties, Advanced, New Driver, Next, Windows Update, wait a while for the page to refresh, then select the HP Deskjet 6980 (HP) driver, OK.  It may be desirable to change the name back to Officejet Pro 8620:  right click on the Printer, Printer Properties, General, type in the desired printer name, Apply.  While there it may be necessary to enable the duplexer:  click the Device Settings tab, set the duplex unit to Installed, Apply, OK.

Since posting, I have contacted HP and they helped me with the fix....It was to download the 8600 Plus Driver and make it the default printer.  They did it for me remotely and were a big help.

But I'm also thankful that you have posted the fix as well.  I was surprised to not find it sooner.

Again, thank you for your help.

And for those still struggling with this issue.....this is the fix.

This works as well.  I wasn't sure about the driver compatibilities with the 6980 drivers and the 8620 drivers.  I have had help from HP with the solution but I hope the 6980 drivers would work also.  Thank you for giving such detailed information on how to do this for us novices in the computer world....namely me.

This should help a lot of people having this issue and especially those using Quickbooks and printing checks.....You need the "Back to Front" option to keep the checks printed in the right order.

Have a great day.
