HP Envy 7800
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I have tried printing on different types of photo paper and I have also tried printing from different programs and either way the photo print quality looks terrible. Colors are completely off and very dark. Also on glossy paper the black comes out looking matte. Is this something that can be fixed. My printer is still under warranty and I have had it for less than a year. I am a photographer and would like to print more of my images at home but I can not print in this quality. All of the images are of high quality and high resolution.

Please help.

Thank you

Welcome to HP Forums,

This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips to your technical queries.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Are you facing the same issue while making a copy on a regular paper?

Are you using genuine HP Ink cartridge?

I suggest you do a Hard Reset

(1) Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.

(2) Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.

(3) With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

(4) Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

(5) Wait at least 60 seconds.

(6) Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.

NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.

(7) Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.

(8) Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.

The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.

Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Check for ink smears on the back of printouts

If there are smears of ink on the back of your printouts, use the automated tool to resolve the issue.

  1. Load plain white paper in the input tray.

  2. On the printer control panel, swipe down to open the Dashboard, and then touch the Setupicon.

  3. Swipe up on the display, touch Printer Maintenance, and then touch Clean Smear.

The printer feeds one page slowly. The printer might make some noise for approximately one minute.

  4. Wait until the page is out of the printer before you remove it.

After cleaning the ink smears, try to print.

Clean the ink cartridges

Use the automated tool to clean the ink cartridges.

NOTE:

To avoid issues that require cleaning, always turn the printer off with the Power button.

  1. On the control panel, swipe down to open the Dashboard, and then touch the Setupicon.

  2. Swipe up on the display, and then touch Printer Maintenance.

  3. Touch Clean Cartridges, and then touch Continue.

A Print Quality Diagnostic page prints.

  4. Examine the Print Quality Diagnostic page.

    • If the print quality is unacceptable, touch Clean Again to continue the next level of cleaning. Repeat these steps for the third cleaning stage, if necessary.

Try to print.
