I have an HP Envy 4520 all-in-one printer. Lately I have been receiving the prompt: User intervention required when I try to print. I uninstall and reinstall the printer to my computer. It says ready but when I try to print is goes back to: User intervention required. I have received help from Microsoft and they said they have done everything they can and it has to be a printer problem. That is why I am asking for help here.

Hi @Karen1948,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be happy to help you!
Do you see any blinking lights on the printer?
Please try few steps recommended below.
Try updating the printer firmware to the latest version.
Update the printer firmware using this link. Click Here
- Resetting the printer and the computer can help resolve error conditions.
- Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
- Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
- Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
- Wait at least 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
- note:
- HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
- Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
- Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
- The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.
- Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.
- Also, Run any Windows Updates on your PC.
Clear the Printer Spooler Files and Enable the Spooler Service to see if this will help.
1. Hold down the Windows Logo key () on the keyboard and the 'R' to open the run box, type Services.msc
2. Double-click Printer Spooler in the Services list.
3. Click on the Stop button and click OK.
4. Hold down the Windows Logo key () on the keyboard and the 'R' to open the run box, type"%WINDIR%\system32\spool\printers, then delete all files in this folder.
5. Go back to services by holding down the Windows Logo key () on the keyboard and the 'R' to open the run box, type Services.msc again.
6. Double-click Printer Spooler in the Services list.
7. Click on the Start button. In the Startup Type list, make sure that Automatic is selected and click OK.
Try assigning a static IP address to your printer and check if it helps.
1. Print a Network configuration page from the printer's control panel.
2. Look for IP address from the Network configuration page.
3. Open web browser - Chrome or IE or any other browser that you are using.
4. Type the IP address mentioned on Network configuration page into the browser's address bar or URL bar and press enter button.
5. Go to the Network tab.
6. Click on Networking from the left pane.
7. Then click on Network Address (IP).
8. Click on Manual IP Address and go to suggest a Manual IP.
9. Scroll down the screen and select Manual DNS server.
10. Enter the Primary and secondary DNS server from the Network Configuration page into the Manual Preferred DNS server field.
11. Click on Apply.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
