Envy 7155
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I installed compatable 3rd party ink cartridges in my Envy 7155 printer.  Cartridges worked fine for about 6 months, until about 7/15/19.  Then the printer reported a color "cartridge problem" and my printer was disabled.  I used "HP smart" to troubleshoot and check that latest firmware was installed.  Completed all of the troubleshooting procedures recommended by HP including resetting the printer to original factory default conditions.  Problem still was not solved.  Called the 3rd party vendor and they sent a replacement color cartridge.  Same problem occurred with the replacement cartridge.  Subscribed to instant ink and new HP cartridge works perfectly.  Obviously there must have been a driver/firmware change to cause the 3rd party ink cartridge to fail.  What must I do to get 3rd party cartridges to work properly?

Hi!  @Bogusch,

Have you tried checking with HP genuine ink cartridge? Does the issue persist?

Certain HP printers use cartridges that have security chips or electronic circuitry. Cartridges using a non-HP chip or modified or non-HP circuitry* may not work, and those that work today may not work in the future.

As is standard in the printing business, HP has a process for authenticating cartridges. HP continues to use security measures to protect the quality of our customer experience, maintain the integrity of our printing systems, and protect our intellectual property. These measures include authentication methods that change periodically and may prevent some third-party supplies from working now or in the future. HP printers and original HP cartridges deliver the best quality, security and reliability. When cartridges are cloned or counterfeited, the customer is exposed to quality and potential security risks, compromising the printing experience.

*Non-HP Chips and modified or non-HP electronic circuitry are not produced or validated by HP. HP cannot guarantee that these chips or circuitry will work in your printer now or in the future. If you are using a non-original HP cartridge, please check with your supplier to ensure your cartridge has an original HP security chip or unmodified HP electronic circuitry.
