Microsoft Windows 11

My printer flashes and says 'can't find the printer head.' Then, it shows a video on how to replace the printer head.  I ordered the printer head and replaced it, and if it does not fix the problem, unplug the printer for 60 seconds for a reset and plug it back in, and if it doesn't fix the problem, contact hp.com.  I did this several times, and it didn't fix the problem.  Has anyone else had this problem? Where do I go from here before returning the part?

@EugeneJ1, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

It sounds like you’ve already gone through some great troubleshooting steps. Here's a more detailed approach you can try:

Ensure Printhead is Installed Correctly

Sometimes, the printhead might not be seated properly, even after replacement. Make sure the printhead clicks into place securely and that there’s no obstruction or dirt.

Check that there is no protective tape or packaging material left on the printhead. Even a small piece can cause a connection issue.

Check the Printhead Contacts

Make sure that both the printhead and the printer’s contacts are clean. Gently wipe the copper-colored electrical contacts on the printhead and the matching contacts inside the printer with a soft, lint-free cloth.

You can also use a small amount of distilled water or isopropyl alcohol on the cloth, but make sure everything dries completely before reassembling.

Restart the Printer

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
  3. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.
  4. Wait for 60 seconds and connect the power cord back in.
  5. Turn on the printer.

Re-seat or Replace the Ink Cartridges

If the ink cartridges aren’t seated properly, it might cause errors related to the printhead. Remove and reinstall the cartridges to ensure they’re properly aligned and make good contact.

Run HP Smart:

Update Printer Firmware (Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support)

  • Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page. Enter your printer model number and search for the latest firmware update. Follow the instructions to download and install the firmware update.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
