SMART TANK PLUS 550 SERIES : STOPPED WORKING
1) Paper jam
2)Removed paper
3)Removed scrap of multi-coloured inked paper from the far right of head track
4) Tried copy, paper jammed under ink heads as the 3rd roller from the right appeared not to be working and jamming it
5) Tried again. Same thing happened. Paper got about 1.5" beyond the heads with ink marks under the head.
6) Had a rest overnight to decrease anger levels.
7) Noticed part of the hinge on fragile flap over the paper hinge had broken, perhaps ity had fallen inj the works.
😎 Tried copy again. Lots of rumbling but no action at all. Print head warning ! and an icon came up above the 3 coloured dots.
9) Took colour head out and replaced it. Seemed fine.
10) Tried again , no change, all ink tanks above 30%
Next steps??
11) Pick the brute up and threaten to throw it out of the window. This has worked with one of the many printers that have given me grief
12) Accept that all printers stop working after 3 years and buy only the cheapestones available and and expect bin one every 3 years.
Will now seek an HP service center !!!???....
Any advice?...

Hi @Splinnet
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you’ve been through quite a bit with your HP Smart Tank Plus 550! Here are some steps to troubleshoot the issue further before you consider a service center:
1. Check for Remaining Paper Jam:
- Double-check the entire paper path and inside the printer for any small pieces of paper or debris that might be causing the jam. Sometimes, even tiny scraps can lead to problems.
2. Inspect the Printhead:
- Ensure the printhead is seated correctly. Remove it, clean the contacts with a lint-free cloth, and reinstall it. Check for any visible damage to the printhead itself.
3. Clear Ink Paths:
- Look for any blockages in the ink delivery system. Ensure the ink tanks are not clogged and that ink can flow freely.
4. Check the Rollers:
- Inspect the rollers for any wear or damage. If the third roller is not functioning properly, it may need to be cleaned or replaced.
5. Reset the Printer:
- Unplug the printer from the power source, wait for a minute, and then plug it back in. This can sometimes reset any internal errors.
6. Run Printer Diagnostics:
- If your printer has a built-in diagnostic tool, run it to see if it identifies any issues.
7. Check for Firmware Updates:
- Ensure that the printer firmware is up to date. Visit the HP support website to check for any available updates.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
