I downloaded the update to IMac Mavericks OS last week. Yesterday I tried to scan in a PDF format using my HP C5580, but when I went to my Documents I could not find the scan. Tried again this AM, but still no Document found after scanning. I went to the HP website where this problem was acknowledged. Apple website said the C5500 series should print and scan. I called Apple Support and ultimately hooked up with a Level 2 tech who helped my set up Image Capture App as the preferred way to scan and save Documents or Pictures. We also found that the HP Pro Scan also worked, but not as efficient as the Image Capture option.

Hi gogolden,

Welcome to the HP Support Forums! Smiley Happy I understand since upgrading to the Mavericks 10.9 OS X you are now no longer able to save documents or pictures when scanning to your HP Photosmart C5580.

Please make sure you have installed the driver properly using the Apple Updates: OS X v10.9 Mavericks: Installing and Using the Printer on a Mac, remember that because there were no full feature software and drivers for your C5580, you might need to scan in a different way than you did before you installed Mavericks.

I see Apple has directed you to use the Image Capture option, also take a look here: How to Scan: OS X v10.9

I hope this helps, if you have any more question please feel free to ask.

Thank you,

My HP8600 installled on 10.12 Sierra won't allow me to save file . It asks for prefix but won't accept anything and the "save" button isn't lit.

I was able to get around it through the "print" sequence, but that is hokey.

This printer has been hooked up to this machine for a couple of years.
