I have an error with my Officejet Pro 8035e printer where it doesn't recognize the black cartridge and is stuck on a "Setup cartridge" error. I no longer have the black setup cartridge. Can I bypass this error or purchase a new set, or just black, Setup cartridge?

Hi @Bbupp,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
Verify Cartridge Compatibility
- Check cartridge compatibility: Ensure that you are using the correct cartridges for your printer model. Setup cartridges are specifically marked and differ from regular replacement cartridges.
- The compatible ink cartridges for the HP OfficeJet Pro 8035e can be found in your printer documentation or on the HP support website.
Reinstall Cartridges
- Remove all ink cartridges: Open the cartridge access door and take out all the cartridges.
- Inspect the cartridges: Make sure they are not damaged and have the appropriate markings for your printer model.
- Clean the contacts: Gently clean the electrical contacts on the cartridges and inside the printer using a lint-free cloth or dry swab.
- Reinsert the cartridges: Place them back into their respective slots, ensuring they are firmly seated.
Obtain Setup Cartridges
- Contact HP Support: If you no longer have the black setup cartridge, you can contact HP Support to purchase a new set of setup cartridges or seek guidance on resolving the issue without them.
Update Firmware (if applicable)
- Download and install the latest firmware: Ensure your printer's firmware is up-to-date by visiting the HP support website, where you can find firmware updates for your specific printer model.
- Follow installation instructions: Properly install any available updates.
Perform a Reset
- Printer reset: Reset the printer to factory settings, which can sometimes resolve setup issues.
- Note: This will restore the printer to its original factory settings and may require reconfiguration.
I hope this helps.
