Microsoft Windows 11

Several days ago my Officejet 9012 attempted to do a firmware update automatically and failed. I have tried to update manually and it always shows that the update is downloading, then I get a message that the update was not downloaded and a message that it failed. I have tried to set an annual IP address and used Google public DNS settings with the same result. The printer is enrolled in Instant Ink and does not let me turn off automatic updates. How do I fix this as the printer keeps trying to update and is offline every time I need to print due to the failure???

HI @MartinCat,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're encountering issues with the firmware update on your HP OfficeJet Pro 9012 printer, and it's causing the printer to go offline frequently. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the problem:

1. Check Network Connection:

  1. Verify Connection: Ensure that your printer is connected to your network and has a stable internet connection. You can check the network connection status on the printer's control panel or print a network configuration page.

2. Restart Printer and Router:

  1. Restart Printer: Turn off your printer, wait for a few seconds, and then turn it back on.
  2. Restart Router: Turn off your router, wait for a few seconds, and then turn it back on. Wait for the router to fully initialize before checking the printer's connection again.

3. Update Printer Firmware Manually:

  1. Download Firmware: Visit the HP Support website and download the latest firmware for your HP OfficeJet Pro 9012 printer.
  2. Install Firmware: Follow the instructions provided by HP to manually install the firmware update on your printer. Make sure to carefully follow all the steps outlined in the installation guide.

4. Reset Printer:

  1. Factory Reset: If the issue persists, consider performing a factory reset on your printer. Refer to the printer's manual for instructions on how to perform a factory reset. Be aware that this will reset all settings on the printer, including network settings.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
