The printer prints out the letters like double words or a shadow. I've tried aligning the cartridges and cleaning the heads few times but that doesn't seem to help. I also unplugged the printer to do a restart and so far that hasn't helped either.

Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Does this happen while copying too?
Try the steps from here: https://support.hp.com/sg-en/product/hp-officejet-j4500-j4600-all-in-one-printer-series/3645081/mode... and https://support.hp.com/sg-en/product/hp-officejet-j4500-j4600-all-in-one-printer-series/3645081/mode...
If you've spare ink cartridges, do try them.
Let me know if this helps.
If the information I've provided was helpful, give us some reinforcement by clicking the "Accept as solution" button, that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!
Thanks!
Have a great day!

Hello Betty,
Thank you for your support, i followed the steps, but it didn't help.
I am using normal paper, genuine new HP cartrideges.
I printed self test page - it is good.
The problem i have is not caused because of dirty cartridge.
The problem is when i print pdf document, the fonts are printed with shadow.
I tried using different documents and different application: Acrobat, Microsoft explorer, Chrome, the result are the same.
I downloaded last version from HP site and re installed - it didn't help.

Did you try making a copy and check if the issue persists?
If the printer is able to make copies and print test pages fine, it means the hardware of the printer is working fine and this could be a print driver issue.
Run HP Print and Scan Doctor to diagnose and fix any driver issue
Click here to download the file. Once downloaded, make sure to run the file to start the installation and click on 'Fix printing'.
If the issue persists, proceed to the next step.
Install the printer using Windows built-in driver
Refer to this document to know how.
Let me know how this goes.
