ENVY 4500

I can't get my iPhone to recognize my Envy 4500 ever since I changed routers. Otherwise, the new router works like a charm. I had the same issue with my Mac and after a long haul, managed to connect the two by adding the printer via system preferences using the IP address. ( after uninstalling, etc.) In regards to my iPhone, I followed the instructions at https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06182360  (aka: A 'No AirPrint Printers Found' Message Displays (iOS) ), which directed me to enter the printer's IP address via the phone's web browser; however, the results I get, while pertaining to my printer, do not match what is in the support page! I can see how much ink I have, etc but cannot follow the instructions I am given in the HP support page as I don't see "network"; therefore, I can't verify if Airprint is enabled in the printer. If it is there, I can't recognize it given the disparity between what I see on the phone and the support page.

How can I solve this?

@msr3, Welcome to HP Support Community!

Set up the Wi-Fi Direct printer connection to your Apple device.

NOTE:

The following steps temporarily disconnect your Apple device from the Internet. If you are printing web-based content such as a webpage, cloud-based document, or an email, open it before proceeding.

  1. On the printer, touch the Wi-Fi Direct/HP wireless direct icon  to confirm the feature is on.

  2. On your Apple device, tap Settings, and then tap Wi-Fi.

  3. Under Choose a network, select your printer with DIRECT in the name.

  4. If prompted for a password, type 12345678. This is the default password to log in.

  5. Try to print.

  6. Reconnect to your local Wi-Fi network after the print job completes.

Let me know if this works.

Also, check if there are any iOS updates available. Update the printer firmware, refer to the document Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware for help.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thank you for taking the time to answer, however:

1) I don't have an icon that looks like the image you posted. Reminder: I have an ENVY 4500. Can you post the appropriate icon image? Is it the one that looks like an antenna, kind of like this -> (( i )) ?  In any case, my printer is connected to the wifi.

2) Provided the first step is simply to make sure my printer is online: When going into my iPhone settings, Under Choose a network, my printer does not show up. I can; however, type in the name. I typed in "DIRECT" but the phone cannot find a network under that name. What exactly am I supposed  to type in at the prompt?

3) I've updated my printer so that should not be an issue.

Please help

Thank you,

M

Thanks for replying!

I would recommend you refer the User Guide(page 56) for more help on enabling the WiFi Direct feature on your printer.

Once the WiFi Direct is enabled, you can follow the steps from my previous post.

Keep me posted.
