HP OfficeJet 5222 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

The printer worked fine before. Now I just tried to print something and it altered the edged to where it kind of blurs and droops on the sides. IT also printed really slow, which it didn't do before. I have been trying to do a test print page and it says I had to register my instant ink cartridges.  I went to my instant ink page and is says my printer is disconnected. But it is connected to the internet and is set up and I have used those cartridges before, but it didn't count my printed pages or register when I switched the cartridges. So I am not sure what the problem is. It is printing wonky and at a snails pace, and I guess isn't registering the connection on my instant ink page. And it is out of warranty.

Hi @KRose3,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to assist you with the  "slow printing" issue.

  • Does the copy also print slowly?
  • How is the printer connected to the device USB or wireless?

Meanwhile, try the steps below-

1) Reset the printer-

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  2. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  3. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  4. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
  5. Reconnect the power cord to the printer.
  6. Turn the printer on. HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet.

2)Check the printer preferences

Selecting certain paper types or printing in the Best quality can slow print speeds. Print with plain paper in Normal or Draft quality for faster print speeds.

  1. Search Windows for printers, and then click Printers & scanners in the list of results.
  2. Click your printer, and then click Manage.
  3. Click Printing Preferences.
  4. Click the Paper or Paper/Quality tab.
  5. In the Type or Paper Type field, make sure Plain Paper is selected.
  6. Adjust the print quality.
    • HP Inkjet and LaserJet printers:
      In the Print Quality field, make sure Draft or Normal is selected.
  7. Click OK or Apply to confirm the changes.

3) Reinstall the print driver

Uninstall the printer software from the root level on your PC and install the full-feature printer software.

--->In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.

--->Select your HP printer.

--->Select Uninstall.

--->In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.

--->In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”

--->Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.

--->Type printui.exe /s and click OK.

--->Click on the Drivers tab.

--->Look for the HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click remove at the bottom.

--->Select OK.

--->Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.

--->Close Devices and Printers.

And then reinstall the printer's full-featured drivers-Software and Drivers Page

4)Try updating the printer's firmwareHP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
