HP Smart Tank 6001 All-in-One

2H089A (Smart Tank 6000 series). MacOS (the latest version). I was printing and then it stopped. All my printer app said was there was an error. When I looked at the small display on the printer it indicated that we were having problems with both the color and black printheads. I tried resetting the printer, but that didn't work. I am beyond the warranty period. The color and black inks have not run out

Hi @JimboSlice3,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.

I understand you're experiencing an issue with your printer that has a printhead error.

I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I'm here to help you today.

Please follow the steps below to fix the issue.

A) Perform a power drain.

 1) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.

2) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.

3) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not into a surge protector.

4) Unplug the power cord > Wait for 30 seconds > Plug the power cord back in > Power on the printer

B) Kindly refer to the steps on this link to update the printer firmware and let me know if that resolves the issue.

C) Refer to the steps on this link to further troubleshoot.

D) If the issue still persists, refer to the steps on this link to restore factory defaults and let me know if that resolves the issue.

Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.

I've done all you said. The firmware is up to date. I had a snag when restoring the factory settings. It didn't show a picture of my printer. When it did it was not clickable, so the factory settings have not been restored. I read on an HP page that the error of the printheads may show up if the ink is filled less than half. The black was. So I filled it up - no change in the error. I filled up the color even though they weren't half way gonn and now only the color  printhead is flashing. The black printhead has gone away. So the printer is still not working.
