This is the worst printer we have ever owned. This thing constantly prints status reports, doesn't matter if we are printing anything or not, it will print a ream of paper in a day if we don't pull out the tray. We have tried everything suggested in your help menus and faq's including a factory reset. We're fedup as this was not a cheap printer. I hope you can help because if I have to go buy a new printer it will NOT be another HP.... We bought this specifically to save $$$ on ink only to end up paying for it in wasted paper. Please help...

Hey HP? Are you out there? The only help I'm getting is how to sign up for unrelated crap and how pay for phone support. Just wondering of you are going to stand by your product and provide some real help since seems to be a common issue when you do a search.

Hi @Aardvark-mi
Welcome to the HP support community.
I understand you're experiencing an issue with your HP device, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I'm here to help you today.
Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
Cancel Printing Jobs:
- Check the printer’s display or your computer’s print queue and cancel any ongoing print jobs.
Check for Stuck Print Jobs:
- Sometimes a stuck print job can cause the printer to continuously print reports. Restart your computer and clear the print queue.
Reset the Printer:
- Power off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for about 60 seconds. Plug it back in and turn it on to reset it.
Inspect Settings:
- Check the printer settings on the control panel or through the HP Smart app. Ensure that any automatic report printing options are disabled.
Update Printer Firmware:
- Make sure the printer firmware is up to date. You can do this through the HP Smart app or by visiting the HP website.
Perform a Hard Reset:
- If the problem persists, you might want to perform a hard reset. Turn off the printer, unplug it, and wait for about 60 seconds before plugging it back in.
Factory Reset:
- If the issue continues, consider performing a factory reset. Refer to the printer's manual for instructions, as this will restore the printer to its original settings.
Check for Mechanical Issues:
- Look for any mechanical issues that might be causing the printer to misinterpret commands. Ensure that all cartridges are correctly installed and that there are no obstructions.
I hope this helps! Keep me posted.

As stated above we have tried all your suggestions in my original post, they are the same as in your other online help menus, nothing new. We even went the extra step of removing the printer from all our devices and reinstalling and the problem persists. Also note there is nowhere in any of the printer setting menus that has an 'auto print' option, so if you know of one buried in the menus you will have to direct me to that specific location. As for hardware the printer is clean and prints perfectly fine, no jams, no debris, so if there is a hardware issue you will have to direct me to the specific spot to check that would cause this printer to print a status report...
PS why is the "accept as solution" "no" button grayed out and unavailable for this thread?

Hi @Aardvark-mi
It sounds frustrating to deal with a printer that keeps spitting out status reports. Here are a few steps you can try:
Check for Print Jobs: Ensure there are no stuck print jobs in the queue that might be triggering repeated status reports. You can clear the print queue from your computer's printer settings.
Reset Printer Settings: Look for an option to reset the printer to factory settings. This is often found in the settings or maintenance menu.
Firmware Update: Check if there’s a firmware update available for your printer model on the manufacturer’s website. Sometimes, issues like this can be resolved with the latest firmware.
Network Settings: If your printer is networked, make sure it’s not receiving a signal to print from any connected devices. Disconnecting it from Wi-Fi temporarily can help diagnose if that’s the issue.
Check Device Connections: Ensure that all devices connected to the printer are properly set up and not sending print commands unintentionally.
Auto Print Option: Since you mentioned there's no 'auto print' option visible, some models might have it under "Preferences" or "Advanced Settings." If you can't find it, refer to the printer's manual for specific guidance.
Hardware Check: For hardware, inspect the printer's control panel for any stuck buttons that might be causing it to print continuously. Additionally, ensure that the sensors inside the printer are clean and unobstructed.
I hope this helps! Keep me posted.
