I have a hp envy pro 6400 the amber light on the edge stays on even though there is no paper in the printer. I would like to know how to get rid of it because it can't print while that light is on.
Also on the hpsmart app it say paper tray empty or paper tray open no of which is true

Hi @CutiePrinter,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The amber light on your HP Envy Pro 6400 printer usually indicates a problem or error condition. Since you mentioned that there is no paper in the printer but the light remains on, there might be other issues causing the error. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue.
- Check for Other Error Messages: The printer might be indicating another issue apart from paper. Check the printer's display or any error messages that might be shown on your computer screen.
- Restart the Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for a minute, and then plug it back in and turn it on. This simple action can sometimes clear minor errors.
- Inspect for Paper Jams: Even if you can't see any paper visibly, there might be a small piece stuck inside. Open all compartments and check thoroughly. Follow your printer's manual for guidance on where to look for paper jams.
- Check Cartridges: Sometimes issues with ink cartridges can trigger error lights. Make sure the ink cartridges are properly installed and seated in their respective slots.
- Reset the Printer: Many printers have a reset option in their settings or menus. Consult your printer's manual to learn how to perform a reset.
- Update Firmware: Outdated firmware can sometimes cause unexpected errors. Check the manufacturer's website for any available firmware updates for your printer model.
- Inspect for Obstructions: Check the printer's paper path and other mechanical parts for any obstructions. Sometimes a small foreign object can trigger an error.
- Check Sensors: There are sensors inside the printer that detect various conditions, including paper presence. Dust or debris might be interfering with these sensors. Gently clean the sensors if needed.
- Paper Tray Settings: Ensure that the paper tray is properly inserted and the guides are set to the correct paper size.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
