HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer

SUMMARY: Factory reset your printer. See bottom of this post.

DETAILS:

I think I have a solution to the B82F6174 error on the HP OfficeJet Pro 7740.

In the past few months, many people here are noticing that after a power cycle, that while the printer boots up normally, after several minutes, its screen goes blue and shows an B82F6174 error.

Some allege a recent firmware update caused the error. That is nonsense. Firmware EDWINXPP1N002.2226A.00 is the most recent, and it from June 20, 2022, months before you see frequent reports of this error.

I did two things. I am not sure which one fixed it, but my printer has been stable for over 36 hours.

Action 1: fix time

The printer's time was advanced several hours to UTC. I put the time back at my time zone.

Because fixing the printer's clock has low risk, I encourage doing this first. Does this alone fix the error? Reply below and let everyone know.

Action 2: factory reset

This is only recommended if correcting the time does not work.

  1. From the printer control panel, touch or swipe down the tab at the top of the screen, then press the gear icon to enter setup.
  2. Touch Printer Maintenance.
  3. Touch Restore.
  4. Touch Restore Factory Defaults.
  5. Continue.

Hi- I went through your proposed steps and I believe I have success, finally!  The first one, resetting the clock, seemed to do the trick but then alas, the blue screen reappeared.  I moved on to the factory reset and it has now been 17 hrs and no blue screen or error message.

Thank you for troubleshooting this and then sharing your solution!

Changing the time did not work.  Blue screen error was on this morning when I returned to school.

Try the factory reset. Does that work?
