Hello everyone,

I am experiencing a strange print issue with my HP Laserjet M254DW which I really can't find the cause and try to solve.

Every printed page presents a vertical line with a sort of "blur/smudge" effect .

I tried to change all the toner cartridges and do some inner cleaning, but this issue always persists.

I am posting a photo to show better.

Does anyone have experienced a similar situation? Any hints?

Thanks guys

I have 20+ years experience and if it was my printer I would just buy a refurbed one with a warranty. These low end fusers can be challenging to disassemble and put back together.

Is the paper smooth or wrinkled at the defect? This type of defect  if paper is crinkled will be fuser. If page is smooth I would examine the interior for any bits of paper or other foreign debris stuck in the brush on the transfer belt. Open the cartridge door remove all cartridges and use a flashlight to examine the cavity. The brush is at the back, on top of the Grey belt. Be careful not to touch the belt with bare hands as skin oils can create other print defects.

Thanks for the reply.

The paper is a bit rough all along the vertical line where the artifact appears, so must be the fuser.

Is this a part I can replace on my own by ordering the spare part, or must I return the printer for maintenance?

Thanks again

You can likely source the part, I have no way of judging your skill set in replacing the device. If you can find a repair manual (google, there are websites that post them) you can determine for yourself if it is a task you feel comfortable taking on.

Do you think that it is likely that I have to replace the whole fuser, or just some part of it, like the film ?

Thanks

Ok, I'll remove the fuser to give a look at its condition. I've found a video tutorial which shows it's quite easy.

Anyway the fuser replacement part is very expensive, maybe only the rollers or the film are damaged which are quite cheap as spare parts.

I'll decide accordingly if it's better to replace the printer directly, not taking the risk to buy a costly replacement which is not even sure 100% to be the solution.

Thank a lot for you precious help.

Have a nice day 😉

Following a video tutorial I extracted the fuser and I think I've found the problem.

The roller has a big laceration exactly halfway which causes the central vertical line imperfection in the printed paper ( see the photo).

I really cannot figure out how this laceration could have been produced..

Do you think I have to replace the whole fuser or can I just replace this roller and if so, how?

Thanks !

Have you checked the feed rollers? Heat can do a number on these as well (depending on age and number of copies printed.)
