Officejet Pro 8710
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

When starting up the printer (a HP Officejet Pro 8710) the following error message appears on the printer screen:

"Use the cartridge that came with the printer". As the printer is nearly 3 years old, I don't have the original cartridges that came in the box anymore. I cannot ignore or bypass this message, and as such I'm not able to print anymore.

When I replace the existing ink cartridges (which are still half full) with new genuine HP ones, a new message pops up indicating that "One or more cartridges are missing or damaged. Until cartridges are replaced make sure the printer is turned on to avoid damage to the printer". I also observed that inserting 1, 2, 3 or 4 cartridges, always gives the same error message that all 4 cartridges are missing or damaged.

Finally, I did following additional checks, but neither that solved the issue.

  • All ink cartridges are correctly installed, the electrical contacts are clean and not damaged.
  • The printer has the latest firmware installed
  • I performed several resets by disconnecting the power supply

Can someone help to solve this issue so I can start printing again?

Thanks in advance for your kind advice.

Kevin

Hi @Kevput,

We would have to perform an OOBE reset on the printer to bypass the setup ink cartridge error

  • The reset instructions are specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may corrupt the device.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
