M281cdw

M281cdw Printer began to recycle as if initializing and shows “supply error” with images of the color cartridges and then reverts to 79 Error, which prompts us to turn printer off then on. This did not correct problems to get printer back to Ready state. Cartridges have been in printer for nearly 6 months. They are not the original. Thanks for any insight into getting back to Teady. Hi @PaulWcislo,

I'd like to help!

Solution: 79 Error Turn off then on

  1. Turn the printer power off, wait at least 30 seconds, and then turn the power on and wait for it to initialize.

  2. If you are using a surge protector, remove it and plug the printer directly into the wall socket. Turn the printer power on.

  3. If the message persists, disconnect any network or USB cables and power cycle. If the printer returns to Ready, check the firmware version and update if a newer version is available.

For instructions on updating the firmware, go to HP LaserJet Pro - Update the printer firmware.

    NOTE:

The firmware version can be found by printing a Configuration Report from the control panel of your printer. Visit the HP Customer Support Drivers page to find the latest firmware version available.

  4. If the error is intermittent, attempt to isolate the issue to something specific in your environment.

a.Delete all print jobs from all computers connected to the printer and send a simple test print job.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Same here.  I tried to update firmware, but at about 80 percent printer reboots. None of the error 79 treatments seem to fix the issue.  HP support app reports a cartridge memory error.  These are second party toners, that have worked flawlessly for about 6 months. If I was certain that a new cartridge(s) would fix the issue I'd buy the HP cartridges.  It may be simpler (and perhaps cheaper)  to just throw out the 10 month old HP any buy something else.
