We are having the same issue trying to scan to email using an MFP M227fdw printer. Have been doing it for a couple of years with no problem, just started getting the error this week. We have made no changes to our printer or email settings. The email we scan to is a g-mail account. Settings on printer for Scan to email , Outgoing email profile:

SMTP Server: "smtp.gmail.com"

SMTP Port: 465

Always use secure connection SSL/TLS: checked

SMTP server requires authentication for outgoing email messages: checked

Email address and password are entered and are correct.
