HP 4500 e all in one
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an HP 4500 injet all in one. I have the message" cartridge must be replaced". I installed new cartridges and got this message after scanning an alignment page. Control panel is locked. I have checked to make sure the cartridges are installed correctly. I have also removed the power plug and restarted the printer.

Hi @poppab1325

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

To better assist you - Are you using a genuine HP ink cartridge?

While you respond to that, try these steps -

1) Take out the cartridges.

2) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.

3) Wait for 30 seconds.

4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not to a surge protector.

5) Insert the cartridges back into the printer.

To clean the ink cartridges, refer to step# 3, 4 and 5 from this document.

Also, try updating the printer's firmware. Refer to this document for steps.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

I have tried all the steps you suggested and nothing works. Panel on printer is frozen.

Turned the printer back on. It asked for language, then country, clicked OK to english and then USA. Than went back to original message.

Thanks for trying. This is a hardware issue. Please Contact HP in your region regarding the service options for your printer.

Have a great day!
