The printer is offline.  I have tried what the virtual assistant recommended.  It is connected to the same network as the computer.  I deleted the Printer and reinstalled and downloaded the firmware.  It printed for a day and went offline again.

Hi @FYC3,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand how frustrating it can be when a printer keeps going offline. Here are some additional steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

1. Check Network Connection

  • Wireless Connection: Ensure the printer is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network. Sometimes printers switch to a different network or lose connection.
  • Wired Connection: If using an Ethernet connection, check the cable and ensure it is securely plugged in.

2. Static IP Address

Assign a static IP address to the printer. This can prevent the printer from changing its IP address, which can cause it to go offline.

Steps to Assign a Static IP:

  1. Access Printer's Web Interface:
    • Find the printer's IP address from the printer's control panel.
    • Enter this IP address into a web browser to access the printer's web interface.
  2. Navigate to Network Settings:
    • Look for a section like “Networking” or “Network Settings.”
  3. Set Static IP:
    • Choose to assign a static IP address and enter an IP address that is outside the range of DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) addresses on your network.

3. Power Cycle Devices

  • Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it, wait for a minute, and then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Router: Restart your router to refresh the network connection.

4. Update Printer Driver

Ensure you have the latest printer driver installed on your computer. Download the latest driver from HP’s official website.

5. Check Printer Status and Settings

  • Print Status:
    • Go to the “Devices and Printers” section on your computer.
    • Right-click on your printer and ensure “Use Printer Offline” is not checked.
  • Set Printer as Default:
    • Right-click on the printer and select “Set as Default Printer.”

6. Disable SNMP Status

Sometimes the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) can cause communication issues with the printer.

Steps to Disable SNMP:

  1. Go to Devices and Printers:
    • Open “Devices and Printers” on your computer.
  2. Printer Properties:
    • Right-click on the HP LaserJet Pro MFP M227fdw and select “Printer Properties.”
  3. Ports Tab:
    • Click on the “Ports” tab.
  4. Configure Port:
    • Select the port the printer is using (usually Standard TCP/IP Port) and click “Configure Port.”
  5. Disable SNMP Status:
    • Uncheck the “SNMP Status Enabled” box and click “OK.”

7. Firmware Update Update the firmware on an HP printer

Ensure the printer firmware is up-to-date. You mentioned downloading the firmware, but double-check if it's the latest version.

8. Firewall and Antivirus Settings

Check your firewall and antivirus settings to ensure they are not blocking the printer’s communication with your computer.

9. HP Print and Scan Doctor HP Print and Scan Doctor

Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool from the HP support website. This tool can diagnose and fix many printing issues automatically.

10. Advanced Network Settings

Sometimes adjusting advanced network settings can help:

  • IPv6: Disable IPv6 on the printer’s network settings if it is enabled.
  • Network Protocols: Ensure that the correct network protocols are enabled.

11. Check for Interference

If using Wi-Fi, ensure there is minimal interference from other devices such as microwaves, cordless phones, or other electronic devices.

Refer to this document:  Printer status is "Offline" and the printer does not print

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
