Hi @Sjsj246,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP ENVY 4500 printer still displays a message indicating that an ink cartridge must be replaced even after you've installed a new one, several issues could be causing this. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the problem.

Check the Ink Cartridge Compatibility:

  • Ensure that you are using the correct ink cartridges for your HP ENVY 4500 printer. The compatible cartridges are typically HP 61 or HP 301, depending on your region.

Reinstall the Ink Cartridge:

  • Remove the ink cartridges from the printer.
  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 1-2 minutes before plugging it back in and turning it on.
  • Reinstall the ink cartridges, making sure they click into place securely.

Clean the Ink Cartridge Contacts:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Remove the ink cartridges.
  • Use a lint-free cloth or a cotton swab lightly moistened with distilled water to gently clean the copper-colored contacts on the cartridges and the corresponding contacts inside the printer.
  • Allow the contacts to dry completely before reinstalling the cartridges.

Reset the Printer:

  • With the printer turned on, unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
  • Wait 60 seconds before plugging it back in.
  • Turn the printer on and check if the issue is resolved.

Update the Printer Firmware:

  • Ensure that your printer's firmware is up to date. Sometimes, outdated firmware can cause issues with recognizing ink cartridges.

Check for Blockages:

  • Inspect the area around the cartridge slot to ensure there is no debris or protective tape blocking the cartridge contacts.

Try Another Cartridge:

  • If you have another new cartridge available, try installing it to see if the issue persists. The cartridge you installed might be defective.

Run a Diagnostic Report:

  • Some HP printers allow you to print a diagnostic page that can help identify the problem.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
